Cape Town Chapter Meeting

Camps Bay

24 May 2003

This was the second meeting the Audi Club of South Africa had in Cape Town. The first meeting took place in August 2002, when we went to Saldanha Bay (see Competion Events).

Apart from Gehard aka Swede (the laser echo guy) - Metallic Black Audi S4, whom I had met in August last year, and Christophe - Imola Yellow Audi S3, who happens to be my son, it was the first time that I met the other participants; Gerald - Nogaro Blue Audi RS2, Graig B. - Red Audi S2 who came with a friend also called Craig, and (another) Graig M. - Silver Audi S3.

We met in Van Kamp street in Camps Bay around 3 pm. While waiting for Graig M., we stayed there quite a while, drooling over the cars, in particular the RS2 and and the S2. We compared the engines of the S4, the S2 and the RS2 which are based on the same 2.2 l 5 cylinder block, compared the performances of the cars, the differences, what upgrades had been done and so on. I was surprised to see that these cars had decent looking all metal (aluminum) diverter valves and not those crappy plastic things found on TT's and S3's.

Although we have seen S2's in Johannesburg (and maybe one day we will see Andrew's S2 ), I was thrilled to see not only and S2, but an S4 and an RS2 all in one breath! Rare site indeed. With the two S3's amongst those classics, it was stunning.

Thereafter, we all went for drinks and nachos to the Sunset Beach restaurant on Victoria drive, talked Audi for quite a while and did see a beautiful sunset over the ocean.

The company was excellent, and I am indeed very pleased to have met and spent some time with some of the Cape Town members. It was a very enjoyable afternoon, the scenery and cars were just out of this world!. I hope we can meet again soon, with more members hopefully.
