SUNDAY LUNCH AT IDLE WINDS

06 JUNE 2004

(More pictures at the bottom of this page)

Two RS6's, two S2's, a Coupé and an Avant, five A4's, one of which was a 3.0 Cabriolet, a good looking 500 SE, a new (AB2) A3, which really looks good in black, a TT, an S6, an S4, an S3 and, last to arrive, an Ebony Black A6 Allroad. Now that was a pretty site, with a variety of models rarely seen at Audi Club lunches.

However, apart from our beautiful cars, what was really nice, was to meet so many new members, for whom this was their first Audi Club event. Ladies and Gentlemen, we hope to see more of you at forthcoming events.

We gathered for a while in the parking lot, which gave the opportunity for the participants to introduce each other and talk about the cars. The later, as you might guess, is normally the most important topic at Audi Club meetings.

We even had a member from Cape Town, Shane and his wife, who were up here for the week. Shane is the proud owner of that magnificent and quick red S2.

Eventually we moved over to the restaurant, where three round tables were set for us in the garden/terrace. Unfortunately, with 28 people it was impossible to have one big table, hence we had to split in groups.

From what I gathered, all liked the food and the company. Our petrolhead bunch were gathered together at one table, where the main (and only?) topic of conversation revolved around turbo's, ecu's, pistons, crankshafts, mods and whatever related to cars, however they managed to come up with a very good idea (originally introduced some time ago by Philip Croeser); a trip next year to the Audi factory in Ingolstadt (Germany) combined with attending the le Mans race and a Formula 1 Grand Prix around that time. Now there is something for the Committee members to work on.

TJ Ferreira also came up with a great idea. A drive to Parys in the Free State, which I understand is a very quaint little town, combined with a lunch, as well as asking the DKW club to join us. This would certainly be very interesting for us Audi owners to learn and see more about our car's history.

The weather was absolutely glorious. A typical (good) winter day for our region. The setting in the restaurant's garden/terrace was also beautiful, and the three course meal was very nice with a varied set menu, which seems to have satisfied all the participants. As always with our club meetings, the participating members very excellent people to spend an afternoon with. Add to this the striking display of Audis in the parking and this was nothing short of a splendid venue.

Unfortunately, due to my wife's work commitments, we had to leave around a quarter to four. Also then, being seated in the shade it was starting to get chilly, something our well built Andrew Stevens (aka the Mayor of Brakpan) did not seem at all bothered with. I understand that the last people to leave left around half past four.

Our most sincere thanks to all the participants who made this a very interesting and worthwhile venue. Many thanks to our Committee member Alan Sofer for organising this event perfectly. He even managed to organise the parking so that all Audis would be together.
