Breakfast run to Amazingwe - 15 April 2007
9 days prior to the run, Castro posted and invite on the forum and sent out an e-mail to club members, about a breakfast run to Amanzingwe
near Hartebeespoort Dam. Planning started and people were advised of payment etc. and confirmation to book a table. The Friday before the
run, a table for 26 was booked and meeting arrangements were made.
|
| 20 beautiful Audi’s converged outside the Newscafe in Midrand, the parking lot had more Audi’s than an Audi dealership. |
|
| It was a crispy morning and the turbo crew and their rides enjoyed the cold air. A few optimists even arrived in shorts. The
plan was to meet at 07h15 and leave for Amanzingwe at 07h45. |
 |
Indemnity forms were completed by all, and then S420VQ called all the drivers together for a briefing. He explained that we would ride in
convoy and explained the route we would be taking. He also iterated that we would be following all the rules of the road including the speed
limits. As we lined up to leave, a screaming black DTM, drove into the parking lot to join the queue on the way out.
|
Almost all the drivers adhered to the speed limit set by the lead car. On the way there a number of bikers were on their breakfast run, and
I guess they don’t have a S420VQ to set speed limits ?. A red Porsche Boxter, who was in a big hurry, came weaving in out of the lanes –
a bit recklessly I thought.

We all got to Amanzingwe without incident, though 2 of our members got there sooner than the rest of the group – they took
a wrong turn. We all followed A4Guy to the “designated” parking spot, which was about 2 kilometres from the restaurant – A4Guy thought we
all needed to work up an appetite.

We had to get 2 additional tables set-up as there were 35 people, 9 more then was originally booked for – but that’s always
better than too few showing up. The view from our outside table was amazing and the optimist were spot on – turned out to be a lovely day.
A hearty breakfast was enjoyed by all, well I didn’t hear anyone complain. The discussions were around dump valves, Vag-com, boost pressure,
timing, ICE, car lengths in front, body panels, wheels, bling, bolt on - bolt off………and the likes. Unfortunately someone made a huge mistake
by asking Rod about his S4, and all hell broke loose ?. Not sure what the ladies were talking about…...

It seemed like everyone had a thoroughly wonderful time and after breakfast everyone went their own way.
Thanx to all that made the effort – the event can only be as good as the participants make it.
Till the next one
Cheers
The Audi Club committee.
