S4 Drive Line Issues (Read 768 times)

Hi all,

I hope someone can help.
My drive line seems "tightening up", almost like brake bind.
But all the brakes are fine and not binding. Everything is brand new and I have checked all the wheels for free wheel.
When driving easy everything seems fine. When I push the car, accelerating hard once or twice, everything "tightens up", I even battle to pull of without overheating the clutch. Can the centre diff maybe be the cause?

Thanks!

So many things it can be , but I would urge you to check the gearbox oil level . If too low don't just top up. Drain and fill with new oil. This may not be the problem , but I do know what it feels like when a urS4 decelerates from 160 to 0 in about 90 meters. Scary stuff and on my urS4 this happened  because of a punctured torsen diff casing and oil loss through the hole in the casing.

May also be a good plan to check the oil level of the rear diff and also to make sure that all is well with the rear diff lock. You don't want to have a locked up rear diff at higher speeds.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Hmm, Tightening up or loss of power, i.e. limp mode. Stick it in neutral and see how far she rolls.

Sounds more like she is in limp mode. If so check error codes.

Thanks Gents!

I do suspect the centre diff as the rear's spins freely and the drive line's so tight I battle to push the car even when the car is switched off! I've had the car in the air but it's a bit difficult to turn more than one wheel at a time when you're on your own Cheesy

I'll just change the gearbox as well as rear diff oil to be safe.

Howzit!

No, not really. Been a bit busy.
I have contacted Rex Diff and Gearbox, as I live around the corner from them.
They would need to have a look at the car.
They suspect the "transfer case" as they haven't had dealings with one before.
Didn't even know it had one!
I will make a couple of calls to other Diff & Gearbox specialists just to see if I can get more info.

I will post the outcome soon.

Cheers!

Transfer case ???? Rex diff and gearbox does not have a clue about it and they just tell you this to get you to invest your money with them. Your UrS4 does not have a transfer case its not a Hilux or a Jeep. What are these people smoking?

Your UrS4 is fitted with an Audi O1E CBL six speed quattro gearbox with a Torsen (torque sensing) center differential.

Go google the above. There is a lot of info on the net about this box.

Hope you get it sorted soon and keep us posted.

Howzit!

Transfer case? what Transfer Case! that's what I said.
Problem is not the info on the box, it's the repair and parts.

Thanks! I will keep you posted

Transfer case  Shocked Shocked
That's the problem we have on Evos. Look at it too hard and it breaks..ok where's that wood I need to touch..

Let them know Audi is made in Germany not Japan.

Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks,
1st step, change the gearbox and diff oil.
I have not done this since buying the car.
Although I do almost Zero km's a month, it's been doing this from day one.
Perhaps the the extra heat from pushing the car hard is breaking down the oil causing all kinds of chaos in the box!
