Shane Naidoo's S2
The Red Baron

"The Red Barron" S2 as it is affectionately called by members of the Audi club has been part of our family for well over a decade. The Factory accessories on the car are the sunroof and RS2 Seats.

About 5 years ago The Red Barron had an upgrade by Geoff Mortimer to RS2 spec. The Porsche engineering ensured the Red Barron ran super reliable with over 250kw and 500Nm with an RS2 ECU done by Mihnea of MRC from the UK.

The addition of the 8pot brake Calipers with Power Brake Die Hard Disks and good torque helped with ensuring both driver and car enjoyed the Hillclimbs and occasional track days. But the Red Barron is more at home being thrown around the Gydo Pass at King of the Mountain events, where its Quattro breeding is second to none.

The RS2 turbocharger ran out of breath at higher rpms. So FRC offered an upgrade to a hybrid Garret/KKK which allowed the power to be increased to 316Kw and 520Nm but still spooled very similar to the RS2 turbo and held its power right through the rev range. The RS2 ecu was then mapped by a combination of FRC and Cape Town based GSR who fine tuned AFRs, Idling compensation and ensuring safe EGTs.

Mark Sacks of Pole Position supplied racing shocks with external reservoirs and together with the RS2 and whiteline ARBs greatly reduced the understeer synonymous with these old quattros.

The Red Barron (R)S2 has been an absolute joy to drive, work, to the track, to the nearest mountain pass, with great character without all the 3 letter acronyms found in today's modern cars to aid car and driver. It also still looks great with its original paint job and some stone chips picked up on the way over the years.
